Check with Loess Hills Humane Society. In the event that your pet has strayed,
we may have it in our care or know who has found your pet. The shelter number
is 712-527-0753.
1. SEARCH YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD. An immediate door-to-door search is
vital. Hand out a recent picture of your pet, description and information about
how you can be contacted if your pet is spotted.
2. VISIT THE HUMANE SOCIETY to see if your pet is here. The staff will walk
you through the Stray area as often as you wish. Fill out a lost pet report if
your pet is not at the shelter. Check back often with the shelter.
3. CALL VETERINARIANS in your area to see if your pet was injured and
delivered to them. Leave a description and phone number with them.
4. PLACE POSTERS AROUND YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD and on local store
bulletin boards with a photograph and the following information: breed of pet,
color, age, gender, when lost, area where lost, if wearing a collar/tag, and
your phone number.
5. PLACE AN AD IN THE LOST SECTION of the newspaper.
6. CONTINUE LOOKING FOR YOUR PET for days and even weeks.
Sometimes people care for lost/stray animals for quite a while before bringing
them to the shelter or putting a found ad in the paper.
7. CONTINUE TO COME TO THE SHELTER to look for your pet and don't give
up!
8. CHECK ALL AREA SHELTERS. Some dog run for miles if they have the
chance or a passerby has picked up your pet and taken it to the nearest
shelter.
